$7,020 for Platinum status? I might as well just buy the airfare. If this was a personal gift card that expired at the end of the year, that's at least debatable.

American Miles at Shell

Earn 2 miles per gallon at Shell. Grab 100 miles for signing up too. Nice to get miles for things I do anyway.

Take Pride in Low Balances

I don't need to fear points inflation with Delta or Hilton. I used up my balances, got good value, and now have less to worry about. I have the $0 fee Amex with Delta and Hilton and they are happy to give me bonus points with a card upgrade, so I'm not walking away from the programs.

The price of a product and the cost of the product are necessarily connected. The Air Berlin ad below has the lowest cost product (single flight to Berlin) as the most expensive price.
