Qantas Will Buy You a Passport
Qantas will buy Americans a passport, but not a visa to Australia.
We’ve heard the majority of Americans don’t own a valid US passport. Since we’re not your typical airline, we’d like to do something about that.
Just book your trip to Australia with Qantas, and we’ll cover the cost of your new passport. That’s $135 off your booking, per person, on all eligible flights. If you have a passport already, no worries, you can still enjoy the discount. Consider it our contribution to your next one.
Book your Australian vacation today with Qantas’ Passport Take-Off.

Cool United 747 Send Off
I like the idea of United selling 747 mementos for miles. I don't think the value is good though. The panel and window frame already sold out, so I suppose enough people disagree.
For a better deal on seats, check eBay.

Goodbye United 747-400
United is retiring the 747-422 in early November. I still see a few each day landing at SFO and they look much better than the 777-300ER. They are also more comfortable in coach.

Quit It United
United needs to stop removing moving walkways and making airports homogeneous. Newark was first, now Houston Intercontinental is at it.

Lovely SFO Arrival
My flight into SFO last night was like a sightseeing trip with an amazing view of San Francisco and Oakland on the way in. We were also 20 minutes early.

Thanks Hertz!
Wow, car rentals are crazy expensive over Christmas weekend. Thanks Hertz points for saving me $950 on a 5 day rental. My account balance was cleared out, but it is worth it.

Good Deal On American Miles
30 miles per dollar on magazine subscriptions at the AAdvantage Mall. It's better value than buying them.

Atlas Air
Atlas Air is a strange cargo airline because they haul people (IAH-LAD) and Boeing parts in addition to regular cargo airline stuff.

35% Bonus for Hotel to British Airways Transfers
Don't bother unless you need to top up <5,000 points for an award, the transfer ratio is miserable.

Bad Luck AKL
A broken fuel line to Auckland airport is causing fuel rationing. ANZ8 is stopping in Fiji to top up on its way to SFO.

Good Job Hawaiian Airlines
More airlines should be like Hawaiian, they are punctual and pursue disruptive passengers for expenses. One guy from New Jersey owns the airlines $98,000 for being disruptive enough to force a flight to turn around. More US carriers should do this and make it a big news story. It would cut down the garbage behavior of passengers who think the only payments would be a settlement in their favor.

Don't Spend Miles on Merch
Don't spend your United miles on Apple products. 43,900 miles for a $329 iPad is miserable value. Use your miles on flights and don't let United dupe you into minimizing the value of your miles.

Rolls Royce Doesn't Make Cars
Rolls Royce makes jet engines, nuclear submarine propulsion systems, and other maritime systems, but they don't make cars (BMW owns the brand for automotive work).

Air Canada
The Wall Street Journal had a nice article this week encouraging travels who need to connect to Europe or Asia to consider Air Canada. I agree they are a good option if you can avoid the 10 wide 777 coach seating.

Photo Post
My trip this weekend started and ended at SFO with 0 miles flown. United had a maintenance delay that forced a missed connection and ruined my trip. I got a refund and went home.
